Part-145, Part-147, CAMO – what do our approvals mean, and why do they matter to you?

A plain-language guide to the European maintenance and airworthiness approvals that form the professional basis of BASe Airlines’ operation.

The rules of European aviation are laid down in EU regulations prepared with the involvement of EASA (the European Union Aviation Safety Agency). The annexes to Commission Regulation (EU) No 1321/2014 – the “Parts” – describe which organisations may carry out maintenance, who may train maintenance engineers, and who may manage the continuing airworthiness of aircraft. BASe Airlines holds its own approval in all three areas.

Part-145 – the maintenance organisation

Part-145 is the European approval for maintenance organisations. The approval schedule sets out, by class and rating, what the organisation may do: in the case of BASe, class A1 (aeroplanes above 5700 kg – Embraer EMB-120), rating C5 (electrical power and lights, batteries) and rating C14 (landing gear – including Goodrich wheel and brake assemblies). The approval reference is HU.145.0021.

Part-147 – the training organisation

Maintenance may only be carried out by appropriately trained and licensed personnel. The Part-147 approval (HU.147.0004) covers the training and examination of maintenance personnel; its scope includes type training for the Embraer EMB-120 and EMB-135/145.

CAMO – continuing airworthiness management

A CAMO (Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation, HU.CAMO.0002) does not carry out maintenance itself; it plans and oversees: it keeps records of aircraft operating times, schedules the inspections that are due, handles manufacturer and authority requirements (ADs, SBs), and oversees the continuing airworthiness of the aircraft.

And the AOC?

The Air Operator Certificate (AOC, H-002) and the Operating Licence (HU-0006 BPS) are the basic prerequisites for commercial flying: they certify that the company may carry passengers and cargo in commercial air transport. The licences are issued by the Hungarian aviation authority.

What does all this mean for our partners?

• For charter customers: operation, maintenance and airworthiness management take place within one organisation, on the basis of authority approvals.
• For ACMI partners: maintenance (the “M” in ACMI) is carried out in-house, under our own approval.
• For technical customers: maintenance enquiries are assessed individually within the scope of our approval.
